Wando teen Michael Anthony sentenced to 10 years for Mount Pleasant robbery

Date: 1/11/2008

Two Wando High School teens implicated in the armed robbery of a Mount Pleasant grocery store took diverging paths in court Friday as one pleaded guilty and the other appears headed for trial.

Michael Anthony pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery and was immediately sentenced to 10 years in state prison as part of a negotiated deal offered by Solicitor Scarlett Wilson.

But Sean Shevlino declined to enter a plea, and Wilson said the 10-year plea deal offered to Shevlino is now off the table. The case could go to trial as soon as next week, she said.

The remaining eight students involved in the robbery pleaded guilty earlier and are awaiting sentencing. Those students are expected to be called as witnesses for the prosecution in any potential trial.
