Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson said she is pleased that a Charleston
jury quickly returned a guilty verdict for the killer of a Goose Creek High
School honors student.
Twenty-three-year-old Dominic Derricotte was sentenced to life in prison for the
2006 murder of Jennifer Skurow, a 32-year-old restaurant manager and resident of
Hanahan.
Jurors determined that Skurow, a former GCHS honors student, was fatally shot
twice on Oct. 7,. 2006 by Derricote, who had formerly been an employee under
Skurow at the Perkins Restaurant at Rivers Avenue and Ashley Phosphate in North
Charleston.
Derricote returned to the restaurant in the early morning hours, as Skurow and
another employee were closing. He robbed the establishment and shot Skurow in
the process, according to the testimony of the employee.
"I'm pleased with the verdict, and that it came quickly," Wilson said of the
Jan. 10 decision. "I'm glad that they judge gave the maximum sentence.
"We're very relieved and grateful that the judge saw fit to give a life
sentence."
