Man convicted in attack on woman

A Berkeley County jury found William F. Williams, 43, guilty of kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct in connection with his attack on a mother of five last year.

Circuit Judge Kristi Lea Harrington sentenced him to eight years in prison on each conviction Wednesday. Sentences will run concurrently.

On Sept. 7, 2008, the victim, who knew Williams, visited his Ladson mobile home to drop off some bolts for his refrigerator and was raped and held captive there. Once freed, the woman told one of her sons what had happened, and he was a key witness, Assistant Solicitor Anne Williams said.

"We are pleased with the guilty verdicts and glad that the victim's voice was finally heard," she said.

William Williams previously was convicted of criminal domestic violence in Colleton County in 2003, the Solicitors' Office said.
