Man convicted of robbery
Thursday, July 16, 2009
MONCKS CORNER — An armed robbery
suspect was found guilty Wednesday and sentenced to 17 years in
jail, Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne DeWitt said.
Terrance Patton, 27, of Hollywood, was
convicted of robbing People's Payday Advance on Redbank Road in
Goose Creek on July 17, 2008, 9th Circuit Deputy Solicitor Bryan
Alfaro said.
An employee was robbed while leaving the
business with a bank-deposit bag. At 9:10 a.m., she got in her car and two
suspects with a pistol pulled alongside her in a vehicle and demanded that
she turn over the bag and her purse.
The robbers left, and soon after a Hanahan
police officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the getaway
car. The suspects ditched the car on Old Point Road. After a scuffle, an
officer arrested Patton. It was not clear whether a second suspect was ever
charged.
DeWitt said tremendous cooperation between the
Sheriff's Office and the 9th Circuit Solicitor's Office led to the
successful prosecution. The prosecutor was Assistant Solicitor Allen
Mastantuno.
