The John Ancrum SPCA will hold its Celebrity Chili Cook-Off and Silent
Auction fundraiser from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Charleston Maritime Center.
Local personalities will prepare pots of fiery chili for the public to
sample, and a panel of distinguished chefs will judge the chili and declare a
winner. The Port City Jammers dance band will perform.
Challengers include Charleston County Council Chairman and past champion Tim
Scott and Councilwoman Colleen Condon, and City of Charleston Fire Chief Rusty
Thomas.
The news media will be represented by Charleston Magazine editor Darcy
Shankland, WCSC-TV reporter Tracey Amick, WCIV-TV anchor Angela May, WCBD-TV
anchorman Brad Franko and Sports Director Brendan Clark, "Big Talker" Richard
Todd from radio station 1250 WTMA, T.J. Phillips from the morning crew at
WEZL-FM, Post and Courier Associate Editor Frank Wooten and Preview columnist
Bryce Donovan, and three-time "Best of Show" winners "Two Girls & a Guy" from
the 95SX morning show.
The RiverDogs baseball team will field a celebrity team represented by mascot
Charlie the RiverDog.
Two new competitors this year represent the law-and-order community:
Charleston County Solicitor Scarlett Wilson and Cpl. Paul Brouthers, spokesman
for the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Celebrity judges are local chefs Frank Lee from Slightly North of Broad, Bob
Waggoner of Charleston Grill and Ciaran Duffy.
Silent auction items include a tour of Charleston by air, fine jewelry, DVD
player and more.
Tickets are $30, which includes chili, beer, wine and festivities. Tickets
may be purchased at SPCA shelters, 3861 Leeds Ave. in North Charleston or 535
