Solicitor Wilson Teams Up to Keep Kids Safe

Charleston, S.C. - Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor Scarlett A. Wilson, Anne Lee, President and CEO of Darkness to Light, and Major Riccio of the Mount Pleasant Police Department have teamed up with the National Crime Prevention Council’s (“NCPC”).  McGruff the Crime Dog® to keep Lowcountry children safer from sexual abuse and “take a bite out of crime”.

Darkness to Light is a national nonprofit organization and initiative located in Charleston, SC, and was recently named Crime Prevention Program of the Year by the National Crime Prevention Council (“NCPC”).  As part of that award, ADT donated a McGruff costume to the Mt. Pleasant Police Dept.  The officers participated in Stewards of Children training last August as part of the 2007 Prevent-a-thon.

Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children™ child sexual abuse prevention training program teaches adults how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

“This partnership will raise awareness of child sexual abuse in our community.  Letting organizations know that prevention is key and quality training is available is an important step in stopping child sexual assaults,” said Solicitor Wilson.
