Solicitor Wilson Teams Up to Keep Kids Safe
Charleston, S.C. - Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor
Scarlett A. Wilson, Anne Lee, President and CEO of Darkness to Light, and Major
Riccio of the Mount Pleasant Police Department have teamed up with the National
Crime Prevention Council’s (“NCPC”). McGruff the Crime Dog® to keep Lowcountry
children safer from sexual abuse and “take a bite out of crime”.
Darkness to Light is a national nonprofit
organization and initiative located in Charleston, SC, and was recently named
Crime Prevention Program of the Year by the National Crime Prevention Council (“NCPC”).
As part of that award, ADT donated a McGruff costume to the Mt. Pleasant Police
Dept. The officers participated in Stewards of Children training last August as
part of the 2007 Prevent-a-thon.
Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children™ child
sexual abuse prevention training program teaches adults how to prevent,
recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.
“This partnership will raise awareness of child
sexual abuse in our community. Letting organizations know that prevention is
key and quality training is available is an important step in stopping child
sexual assaults,” said Solicitor Wilson.
