The Mount Pleasant Police Department, Anne Lee, President and CEO of Darkness
to Light, and Scarlett Wilson, Ninth Circuit solicitor, have teamed up with
McGruff the Crime Dog to keep Lowcountry children safe from sexual abuse. They
recently met in front of the Ronald "Roddy" Perry Judicial Center to celebrate a
new partnership and a well deserved award.
Darkness to Light was named Crime Prevention Program of the Year by the
National Crime Prevention Council. As part of that award, ADT donated a McGruff
costume to the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
Mount Pleasant police officers participated in Stewards of Children training
last August, as part of the 2007 Prevent-a-thon.
Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention
training program teaches adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly
to child sexual abuse.
It is hoped that this partnership will be effective in raising awareness of
the crime of child sexual abuse and in letting organizations know that
prevention training is available. To schedule a Stewards training class, contact
Darkness to Light at 965-5444, or visit them online at
darkness2light.org.
